Happy Birthday Tom Jobim!

Antônio Carlos Brasileiro de Almeida Jobim (January 25, 1927 in Rio de Janeiro – December 8, 1994 in New York, buried on December 13, 1994 in Rio de Janeiro). Today, the 25th of January 2013 would have been Tom Jobim’s 84th birthday. And because on every second Sunday of the month, Moontraxx presents the Ipanema Lounge Project, who play Jobim their very unique interpretation of his songs, we would like to honour him in this post.

The famous Brazilian songwriter, composer, arranger, singer, and pianist/guitarist, died of heart failure in New York City on December the 8th, 1994 (exactly 14 years after John Lennon), leaving a wealth of songs indelibly stamped on the world’s collective memory. A primary force behind the creation of the Bossa Nova style, the Grammy Award-winning songwriter is acknowledged as one of the most influential popular composers of the 20th century. His songs have been performed by many singers and instrumentalists within Brazil and internationally.
